Back to School!
As children across the Mid-South get ready for the start of another school year, taking time to purchase new clothes and supplies, many of them will begin their studies with undiagnosed and untreated vision problems. Research shows that vision disorders are the number one handicapping condition of children. In fact, as many as one in four school age children have vision problems, according to the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. And as many as 80% of children with a learning disability have an undiagnosed vision problem (Vision Council of America).
All children deserve the opportunity to learn and to achieve their full potential. For this reason, public awareness about learning-related vision problems is necessary to ensure that young people receive the prompt vision treatment they need to enhance their lives.
Therefore, we encourage parents, educators, school nurses and all concerned adults to recognize the critical role good vision plays in the learning process and to work together to help prevent or reduce the impact untreated vision problems can hve on our children's ability to read and learn.
So, be ahead of the game and have your child's eyes checked before they start complaining! Don't let your child's grades suffer as a result of not being able to see the board or read their textbooks. Call our office today and get your child scheduled for his/her comprehensive eye exam!
